Functions


The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol fulfills the statutory duties of the Office of Sheriff associated with the use of public and private waters, which includes:
  • Providing public safety to users of the public waterways
  • Investigating incidents on both public and private water
  • Promoting boat and water safety education to the citizens of Blue Earth County
  • Conducting search and rescue operations on area lakes and rivers

Boat & Water Patrol Deputies are responsible for:

  • placement, removal, and maintenance of buoys and their anchors that mark no-wake zones, dangers, and channels
  • providing boating and water safety talks to schools and citizen groups in Blue Earth County
  • inspecting the rental watercraft throughout Blue Earth County
