The Blue Earth County Library in Mankato is launching a new program designed to get participants’ creativity flowing. Maker Mondays will be held Mondays, September 16 through November 25 with a kick-off week featuring daily events September 16 through 20.
A time for making, learning and exploring using all sort of tools, technology, and skills, Maker Mondays will have classes for all ages and skill levels. Participants will create and collaborate with other area crafters. Classes are led by local artists and experts who are skilled in their particular handicraft. The programs are free and open to the public and all materials will be provided.

September 16, 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Button Making with Commissioner Stuehrenberg
Blue Earth County Commissioner Vance Stuehrenberg will be sharing his button-making skills with participants of all ages.
September 17, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Learn to paint with step-by-step instructions and create a funky, book-themed piece of art.
Registration required; ages 18+.
September 18, 1 – 2 p.m.
Picture Book 101: Writing and Illustrating Picture Books
Learn what a picture book is, which types there are, basic elements to consider for writing and illustrating your own and also do a quick writing exercise. Join Trisha Speed-Shaskan, author of more than 50 published picture books, and her husband Stephen Shaskan, the author/illustrator of four picture books, for this great session for adults.

Family Storytime and Activity
Join us for fun stories with your favorite little person and stay to help them repurpose an old book into something beautiful to take home!
September 20, 3 – 4:30 p.m.
Junk! Junk! Junk!
Re-purpose junk into cute, functional treasures! Library and Property and Environmental Resources staff have come up with great ways to have some creative fun with "junk!" Make one project or all of them! Free and open to all ages.
September 23, 6 – 7 p.m.
Manga with Mackie
Ever wanted to draw manga? Want to improve skills that you already have? Join us for an evening with local artist Jeff Mackie, who will offer some great instruction and tips for drawing manga.
September 30, 6 – 7 p.m.
Recycled Book Craft
Join us to make an adorable, festive fall pumpkin, and we'll share ideas about what else we can make. Supplies will be provided. Open to all ages, but little ones will need adult assistance and supervision.
October 7, 14, 21 and 28, 6 – 7 p.m.
Learn to Knit!
If YouTube videos haven't worked for you, here's your chance to learn to knit in person! Learn from a skilled artist in this 4-part series of classes. You will make a project, and supplies will be provided.
Registration is required. Ages 18+ and a limit of 10 participants. These programs are made possible by a grant from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
November 4, 6 – 7 p.m.
Learn some tips and tricks for beautiful card making! Leave with something wonderful to send a friend or loved one. Free and open to all ages, but little ones will need supervision and adult assistance.
Limit of 12 participants.
November 11 – Library closed in observance of Veterans Day
November 18, 6 – 7 p.m.
Learn the basics of embossing and make a beautifully stamped candle
Ages 18+ and a limit of 12 participants.
November 25, 6 – 7 p.m.
Mason Jar Centerpieces
Re-purpose jars into charming centerpieces! Leave with a gorgeous piece sure to make a statement at your next meal. Perfect for the holidays.
