When you fill out the card, remember that you can only vote where you live. If you are a student living at school, you can choose whether to register at home or at school, but not both!

If you miss registering before Election Day, you can still register on Election Day at your polling place. You will need proof of your identity and the address where you are living on Election Day. Use one of the following for proof:
  • A current Minnesota Driver License, learner permit or identification card (or receipt for a new one) with your current address
  • One of the above with a former address and a utility bill*
  • A U.S. passport or military ID card and a utility bill*
  • A "Notice of Ineffective Registration" letter mailed to you by your County auditor (if you turned in a registration card late)
  • Photo ID with a current student fee statement with your current address
  • Student photo ID with utility bill*
  • Student photo ID if you are on a student housing list on file at the polling place
  • Tribal ID, if it has your photo, name, signature and current address
  • Tribal ID with a utility bill, if it has your photo, name and signature
  • An employee of a residential facility (including battered women's shelters, nursing homes, homeless shelters, group homes and transitional housing programs) who will vouch for you, if you are staying at the facility
  • Someone who is registered in the precinct where you live can vouch for you at the polling place

    * Note: The utility bill must have your name, current address and be due within 30 days of the election. Utility bills may be for electric, gas, water, solid waste, sewer, telephone, cell phone, TV, or internet services.  A rent statement from your landlord that itemizes utilities also counts as as a utility bill.

If you're registered with a different name or at a different address within the same precinct, you can simply update your registration at the polling place.
